The Space inside

The main inspiration for this website came from Verse 11 of the Tao Te Ching, written approximately 2500 years ago by Lao-tzu. This translation is by Stephen Mitchell…

We join spokes together in a wheel,
but it is the center hole
that makes the wagon move.

We shape clay into a pot,
but it is the emptiness inside
that holds whatever we want.

We hammer wood for a house,
but it is the inner space
that makes it livable.

We work with being,
but non-being is what we use.

On the About page of this site I made up my own verse on the subject of empty space. I am inspired by empty space, it sometimes feels more valuable than the stuff that fills up the space. Empty space feels like potential. The phrase What Is A Cup means we value the space inside.
